Actual Experience

I got an opportunity at a small private practice, which focuses on

cardiology. On my first day of shadowing I still did not know what to expect from the patients, but as I spent more hours in the office, I got to see how to work with people. Adina is an amazing nurse practitioner, who gave me this opportunity to shadow her and learn. I asked her many questions about either schools, different diseases or anything that came to my mind. She was a great mentor. The first thing I usually did when I came into the office was seeing the patients with Adina. I usually got there before 2PM, at a time when she already saw a few patients. It was really interesting to see what patients’ concerns were. Adina always asked about their family history, any surgeries they had before, pregnancies if the woman was pregnant, medications, and of course she examined them as well. The patients were either established, who come regularly for appointments, or patients who needed a clearance for a surgery. After Adina saw her patients, she also had to write an addendum or a letter to a doctor, which would perform a surgery. I got to see three hours once a week and I got to experience many interesting conversations as well as new medical concepts.
